Turku Aikikai Information |
Welcome
to train aikido in Turku!
Turku Aikikai is the biggest aikido club in Turku and one largest in Finland. People have been training aikido in Turku since 1970, which is also the year when aikido was introduced to the country. Turku Aikikai was founded in 1991, when local practitioners decided that now is the right time for a club that specialises solely in aikido and iaido. Before that we trained in Budokwai, which also had other martial arts in its curriculum. We offer possibilities to train aikido once or twice every day with the exception of June and July, when there is no training in the weekends. Turku Aikikai has over 150 practitioners, which includes a fair amount of children as well. We are resident at the Shaolin Dojo in the centre of Turku, in which you may also train karate, jujutsu and taiji. The style of aikido which we train is based on the teachings of Yasuo Kobayashi Sensei 8th Dan and Kazuo Igarashi Sensei 7th Dan, both of whom are respected Aikikai aikido teachers. Along side that we train a lot of Tetsutaka Sugawara Sensei’s jo and bokken forms. Our main instructor is Petteri Silenius 5th Dan, who has been training aikido since the late 1970’s. We believe in a joyful and earnest training atmosphere and welcome aikido practitioners of all kinds to visit and train at our dojo. We have had visitors from many countries and we ourselves have trained in many foreign dojos, whenever we have had the opportunity. Turku Aikikai is a member of Finland Aikikai, which is recognised by the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo. We are looking forward to see you. |
